5 Places You'd Never Believe Were The West Coast of Scotland

Sometimes it's not raining in Scotland, in fact sometimes its sunny and pretty breath-taking. Don't believe us? Have a look and see for yourself; would you believe these pictures were taken on the west coast of Scotland?

Denmark?

  Duart Castle

This fortress might look iike it belongs in a Danish Viking Settlement, but it's actually Duart Castle located on the Isle of Mull. The castle is the ancestral home of Clan MacLean and dates back to the 13th Century.

Norway?

You'd be forgiven for thinking that this was an image of a picturesque Norwegian fishing village, it is in fact the harbour at Oban Bay. As well as being 'Gateway to the Isles' Oban is a bustling seaside town with everything you need for a great day out including a host of great shops, restaurants, historic attractions and in true Scottish fashion a distillery.

Iceland?

  Fingals Cave

Guess again! This is actually Fingal's Cave, a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staffa. It became known as Fingal's Cave after the poem written by 18th century Scots poet James Macpherson.

The Caribbean?

   Iona

This scenic shot was actually taken on the isle of Iona. One of the smaller islands on the west coast of Scotland. Iona is only 3 miles long with a year round population of less than 200 people. Iona has a strong connection with Christianity, dating back to the arrival of St. Columbas in AD563. Today Iona is still known as the centre of Scottish Christianity and Iona Abbey is still a centre for Christian pilgrimage.

Gold Coast?

  Mull Calgary

Almost...The clear blue water might have you dreaming of Oz, but this picture was actually taken on the Isle of Mull.
