Isle of Mull Cheese is the home of the only dairy farm on the isle of Mull recognised for its individuality of flavour and taste. The making of cheese on Scottish Islands has long been practised as a way of conserving the rich plentiful milk of spring and early summer. The tradition is still very much alive on the isle of Mull at Sgriob-ruadh farm, where Isle of Mull Cheese is made. The family run farm pride themselves on keeping their cheese as fresh and natural as possible. The same morning that the cows are milked, their milk is taken directly from the milking parlour to the cheese making vat. It is due to this quality and care that the Traditional Isle of Mull Cheese won gold at the World Cheese Awards in 2011.
If you’re visiting the isle of Mull you can head to the farm to watch the cheese making process or venture down to the underground cellar to inspect the cheeses as they mature for many months!
