Famous for its glorious gardens and grand architecture, Bute is only 33 miles from Glasgow and is known as one of Scotland’s hidden gems.
It might be only 15 miles long by 4 miles wide but it packs a punch with lots to see and do on a visit! Take a look on the gallery tab above to see some of the destinations you can visit as part of our Open Top bus tour of Bute.
Its gardens include the Esplanade Gardens which greet you with a sea of colour as you step off the ferry in Rothesay and these combined with Ardencraig Gardens, Ascog Fernery and of course, the extensive gardens and grounds of Mount Stuart House all contribute to the island’s reputations for being home to glorious gardens.
For grand architecture you need look no further than Rothesay with the dramatic Rothesay Castle and, for gothic splendour, Mount Stuart House is one of the best examples in Scotland.
Rothesay and Port Bannatyne are ideal places to eat with a good range of cafes, bistros, bars and restaurants. And there is accommodation to suit everyone across the island – from hotels in Rothesay to small B&B’s and self-catering accommodation in remote spots, nestled on sandy beaches.
